Commercial transparency
Affiliate disclosure
ExpatTurtle may use affiliate links now or in the future. If a reader completes an eligible purchase or signup through one of those links, ExpatTurtle may receive compensation.
The short version
If a link is commercial or affiliate-based, that relationship should be disclosed. Compensation does not determine factual conclusions, comparison criteria, or whether a relevant free or official alternative is included.
Editorial firewall
- No pay-to-win rankings: a higher commission does not justify a higher editorial position.
- Free and official options still matter: relevant government, public, or fee-free alternatives should not be omitted solely because they cannot generate revenue.
- Claims still need evidence: a commercial partnership does not lower the verification threshold.
- Disclosure near the decision: when affiliate links are used, the commercial relationship should be clear to readers.
- Appropriate link attributes: commercial links should use sponsored/nofollow attributes where supported and applicable.
Sponsored content
If ExpatTurtle publishes paid sponsored content in the future, it should be clearly labeled and remain subject to factual accuracy requirements. Payment should never be presented as independent editorial endorsement.
